MENTOR HELPLINE

Our mission

“A society of doctors dedicated to fostering a culture of empowerment, growth, and personal wellbeing in the NHS.”

Our mission is to provide personalised mentorship to the next generation of NHS doctors, empowering and inspiring them to become successful and fulfilled healthcare professionals. By prioritising individual growth and development, we aim to create a supportive environment from the ground up, enabling doctors to provide exceptional care while promoting their personal wellbeing and happiness. Our commitment to mentorship is rooted in the belief that a fulfilled and motivated doctor will create a ripple effect in delivering the highest quality of care to patients and building a brighter future for the NHS.

We strive to foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation within the NHS while upholding our profession’s highest ethical standards and values. Together, we envision a future where every doctor has the support and guidance they need to thrive and positively impact the health and wellbeing of our communities.

Overview of Doctor Mentor

Doctor Mentor has been created for doctors by doctors. It is a comprehensive mentorship programme and society for doctors aimed at improving the wellbeing, job satisfaction and retention of doctors. It has been created at a crucial time when doctors need this the most.

The programme focuses on three core areas:

  1. Upskilling doctors with national opportunities for application and further growth

  2. Networking and being a part of a nurturing and engaging community

  3. Mentoring, career guidance, and wellbeing support

Developing doctors and empowering them individually provides the foundation for a positive culture of future change, innovation and improvement to cascade very quickly and effectively at a national level.

Our Research Outcomes

The creation and foundation of this programme are rooted in the research that we have conducted with doctors via focus groups and surveys. Given the current retention crisis, the most promising finding from the participating doctors is that they felt they are more likely to remain in the NHS if there is more focus on personal and professional development, and if they had access to mentors and a supportive community. On top of that, they also expressed how they would feel more empowered to instigate changes at a local and national level to improve patient care and systems within the NHS.

Wellbeing and PPD Curriculum

Explore our core curriculum and personalise the mentoring programme by choosing which areas you would like to focus on.  Each curriculum topic is delivered across a variety of platforms, to provide you with choice.  These include in-person and virtual events, e-learning videos with our virtual avatar Chief Mentors, online blogs and podcasts.  The aim is to help you develop confidence by learning about a topic, giving you the opportunity to put those skills in action, and then mentor others in the skill that you have now mastered!

The Ethos of Doctor Mentor

The ethos of Doctor Mentor is based on the belief that mentoring can play a critical role in helping doctors to:

  • Enhance their clinical and leadership skills
  • Build resilience and well-being
  • Develop a sense of professional identity and purpose
  • Navigate the complexities of the healthcare system
  • Foster a sense of community and networking

The ethos of Doctor Mentor is grounded in the recognition that doctors are not only professionals but also human beings who can benefit from guidance and support from others. The programme aims to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where doctors can share their experiences, learn from one another, and receive constructive feedback.

Doctor Mentor is also based on the belief that mentoring is a two-way process. Mentees can learn from their mentors, but mentors can also learn from their mentees. The programme is designed to promote a culture of continuous learning and development, where doctors can grow both personally and professionally.

Overall, the ethos of a Doctor Mentor is centred on creating a positive, supportive, collaborative and empowering environment that enables doctors to thrive and reach their full potential.
